THE ALBUM
The concept of the Avalon Metal Opera was born in the second half of 2012, when the Finnish composer and producer Timo Tolkki, former STRATOVARIUS guitar player and one of the true forefathers of the Power Metal genre, decided to move forward with his career and work on a project which could allow him to express his musical creativity without any boundaries, within the Classic Metal genre.
The debut "The Land of New Hope" was released in May 2013 and entered the national album charts in 7 European countries, including a top 10 entry in Tolkki's home country, Finland. The album featured performances by numerous internationally acclaimed singers and musicians such as Michael Kiske, Elize Ryd, Russell Allen, Sharon Den Adel, Tony Kakko, Alex Holzwarth, Jens Johansson, Derek Sherinian and of course Timo Tolkki himself.
Tolkki resumed the work for a second album with the concept of developing the sound and the music in an even more grandiose and symphonic metal mood, even though from the beginning there was the idea to go in a heavier and darker direction which better fits the Apocalyptic scenarios described in this new album.
On the musicians' side, Tolkki finally managed to reunite the legendary STRATOVARIUS "Dreamspace" lineup, calling Antti Ikonen and Tuomo Lassila to play keyboards and drums respectively. The amazing vocal cast appearing this time include the new NIGHTWISH singer Floor Jansen -- handling lead vocals on the first single "Design The Century" -- along with Simone Simons (EPICA), Fabio Lione (RHAPSODY OF FIRE), David DeFeis (VIRGIN STEELE), Zachary Stevens (ex SAVATAGE, CIRCLE II CIRCLE) plus Elize Ryd (AMARANTHE) who appears again after the first album and the stunning Chilean singer Caterina Nix, who is working on her debut album which is also produced by Tolkki.

Former Black Country Communion stars, singer-bassist Glenn Hughes and drummer Jason Bonham, have formed their new band California Breed, featuring the astounding talents of 23-year-old singer-guitarist Andrew Watt, the fact that their first album has been produced by Dave Cobb, whose spectacular work with Rival Sons has received so much acclaim, gives a big clue as to what they sound like.
"It's proper rock," says Hughes, "but at the same time it's very now. Andrew is as influenced by Mick Ronson as he is Jimmy Page."
"I grew up listening to all the grunge bands," says Watt, "but my dad always played me The Who, the Stones and Led Zeppelin so that became my music too.
"This kid is amazing," says Bonham. "The first time we met I thought he looked like the white Jimi Hendrix. And he plays in the studio likes he's onstage!"
The three-man line-up got together as California Breed for the first time last year after Hughes was introduced to the newcomer from New York by their mutual friend Julian Lennon. "Julian was having an exhibition of his photographs at the Morrison Hotel Gallery in LA," Glenn recalls, "and he said, 'You must meet this guy, he's the most fantastic guitarist -- who turned out to be Andrew."
Reconvening at Hughes' Hollywood home a few days later, "The chemistry was just instant," says Hughes. "We immediately wrote two songs together, Chemical Rain and Solo, both of which have ended up on the album. That's when I called Jason and said you've gotta come down right now."
"The energy when I walked in the room was crackling," recalls Bonham. "I was so pleased. Glenn and I had not only really locked in as a rhythm section in BCC but we'd started writing together and we both really wanted to keep that good feeling going."
Indeed, all 12 tracks on the as-yet untitled forthcoming California Breed album -- the band have signed a deal with signed a deal with the Frontiers label - have equal co-writing credits amongst the band. Recorded at Cobb's Nashville studio, "Everything was done more or less live," says Hughes, "including the vocals. Which is the reverse of how I've always done things".
The end result is a sound that combines all the classic rock elements of BCC -- big, meat-cleaver riffs and heart-rending vocals -- but with a 21st century gloss that comes from working with someone as
up-to-the-minute and talented as Watt (whose previous music can be heard at his Soundcloud page and on the track below, with video directed by Mick Rock).
Look out for Midnight Oil, a raunchy Stones-esque rocker with breathless female backing vocals, deep groove rhythms and face-smacking guitars. The other breakout track is All Falls Down, the kind of spine-tingling pop-rock-who-knows-what that starts all colour and light and finishes all towering harmonies, back-arching guitars and epidemic-sized catchiness.
There are others but, as Hughes says, "This, I promise, is going to be something special."

"Three Lions" is the sensational eponymously titled debut album from this new British 3 piece rock band. The band consists of Vinny Burns (Dare, Ten, Asia) on guitar, Greg Morgan (Dare, Ten) on drums and introduces Nigel Bailey on vocals and bass guitar.
"Three Lions" features 12 brand new tracks, written by the band and also in collaboration with producer Alessandro Del Vecchio on 2 songs. Recorded at The Viper Room, Coil Tap Studios in the UK and Ivory Tears Studio in Milan, this album combines massive guitar riffs and great hooks alongside driving rhythms and powerful, yet emotional vocals.
The band was formed when Vinny, Greg and Nigel were introduced by Serafino and Alessandro at Firefest in October 2012. The guys hit it off straight away and immediately set about writing new material for the album. The first single, Trouble In A Red Dress, captures the energy of the band and is a classic foot stomping rock song with an infectious groove, soaring guitars and a chorus you have to sing along with.
The album is made up of songs that were written without an agenda. "We set out to write good songs, the only criteria was that all of us liked them" said Nigel, "Working with Vinny and Greg has been a blast and we were all determined to make the best album possible and are immensely proud of the songs that have made it onto the final record". From the eastern influenced Kathmandu, to the driving power of Hellfire Highway and Twisted Soul, to the heartfelt ballads Made For One Another and Don't Let Me Fall. This album delivers passionate performances from the guys. Vinny's trademark guitar work is, as you would expect, filled with emotion and feel. "I wanted to start with a blank canvas for the guitars" says Vinny. "This album allowed me to show a different side to my playing whilst retaining the familiar sound and feel fans of Dare and Ten will recognise". "Working with Vinny again has been great fun and Nigel brings something new to the table" said Greg. "This is definitely a record made by a band, not just a studio project, and that really comes across in the songs. We had an instant connection as musicians but also as people and we cannot wait to get out and perform these songs live soon".

KXM 'Rescue Me' Official Music Video from the same titled debut album - ...
KXM, new rock supergroup consisting of George Lynch (Lynch Mob, ex. Dokken), Ray Luzier (drummer of Korn) and King's X vocalist/bassist Doug Pinnick, herald their highly anticipated first offspring. Their debut album "KXM" will be released via earMUSIC on May 30th.
K like Korn. X as in King's X. M as with Lynch Mob. With their creative union called KXM, which came into life through a jamming mood, King's X vocalist Doug Pinnick, Korn drummer Ray Luzier and guitarist George Lynch (ex. Dokken, Lynch Mob) have channeled their musical talents into a unique symbiosis of hard rock music.
KXM was conceived like many great things are: by chance. During a party at Luzier's house the host asked his friends Pinnick and Lynch if they wanted to hang out and jam with him some time. And since both of them are crazy about music and always happy to try out new things, the answer of course was positive. They met at the next opportunity, jammed straight on, chimed together perfectly and all of a sudden had a whole album of powerful rock songs in the can.
George Lynch still feels giddy about this new rock alliance. "KXM is just one big happy accident! When Ray, Doug and I got together to talk about doing this we just thought we'd get together very casually, have some fun and do some jamming, and see what came of it, without any real high expectations. We had no management, label, crew, studio... we didn't even have a song!" he says with a laugh. "Our one rule was that we leave any and all preconceived ideas at home and that we would start from scratch and build something new from the ground up. Ten days later we had an album. Now there's this nice big buzz out there and we're all kind of shocked. The response was unexpected ...and exciting! I haven't been involved in a project that's generated this kind of excitement since the Lynch Mob 'Wicked Sensation' release in 1990. It feels great...and it feels right."
But first and foremost, it sounds great and right. The wonderfully catchy first album single "Rescue Me" shows what this rock collective is capable of: Pinnick's unique voice and his distorted bass grooves meld with Luzier's powerful and precise drumming and Lynch's buzzing trademark riffs into fresh and vibrant rock anthem. However, this is just a foretaste of what is to come, that is, an album whose diversity and dynamic will not only thrill all fans of the trio's main bands but any friend of powerful rock music in general as well. On their eponymous debut, which was produced by Chris Collier (Lynch Mob, Lita Ford, Tommy Bolin), KXM cover the whole spectrum of modern rock music: from the emotional ballad "Never Stop Loving You" to the mesmerizingly unsettling "Sleep" to the epic and vigorous "Human Friction".
When three musicians of this caliber unite it's not necessarily a given that something great will ensue. However, it is possible that something great ensues -- if the oft-quoted chemistry is right. With KXM the chemistry is right indeed. The outcome is a debut album that will shake the strongholds of rock music.

L.R.S. "Livin' 4 a Dream" is taken from the album "Down to the Core".
Frontiers Records is pleased to announce the release of L.R.S. debut album "Down to the Core" on March 21st in Europe and March 25th in North America.
L.R.S. stands for the new Melodic Rock musical alliance between singer Tommy La Verdi (21 Guns), guitarist Josh Ramos (The Storm, Hardline) and drummer Michael Shotton (Von Groove, Airtime). Started initially as a way to bring back to the public the amazing vocal talent of Tommy LaVerdi, a singer which came to the attention of the fans on the fabulous 21 GUNS debut album "Salute" in 1992, the whole project morphed into a power band trio when two other well known musicians: guitar player Josh Ramos and drummer Michael Shotton were brought into the picture by the album producer Alessandro Del Vecchio (HARDLINE).
The writing sessions were fast and steady, with Del Vecchio managing all contributions from the band members -- who lived in different places - and offering a number of his own writings and co-writings to the band, which was anyway able to develop a distinctive Melodic Rock sound in the tradition of JOURNEY / THE STORM, with hints of Canadian AOR - think mid 80's TRIUMPH. Recording sessions happened for the most part in Somma Lombardo, Italy during the spring of 2013, with the musicians getting along extremely well and creating a spontaneous camaraderie which contributed a lot to the success of the sessions.
"I respected a lot both Josh and Michael before starting the album and it was actually very sad to leave each other after we finished recording and filming the videos" said Tommy La Verdi, while Michael Shotton added "It was like we had been playing in a band for years!". "I had the opportunity to try different styles and moods and incorporate elements of my past musical experiences in The Storm and Hardline -- I was very glad to be involved in this", concludes Josh Ramos.
The resulting album "Down to the Core" is now finally ready to be unleashed to the public. With soaring vocals from LaVerdi, a superb vocalist who comes back into the well deserved spotlight and some exquisite guitar playing from Ramos, this is an album not to be missed and an AOR highlight for early 2014!
